Child Yeast Infection:

Babies and toddlers can get yeast infections just like adults do especially in there early years while in diapers.  Because yeast likes to grow in there skin folds.  The yeast infection babies and toddlers get is caused by candida known as albicans, and is a very common thing known as child yeast infection.    You’re doctor can examine your baby or toddler to determine if he or she might have a rash on there groin or thrush in there mouth which is caused by a yeast infectionChild yeast infection is not fun for little ones because they do not understand why they are feeling so uncomfortable and can be very miserable for them to go through.  You’re doctor may prescribe an antifungal cream for your little one to treat your Child’s yeast infection.  If you notice your baby or toddler is not getting any better after using the antifungal cream you should call you’re doctor right away especially if you notice a rash on the bottom that will not go away.

Things that can cause a child yeast infection are:

Antibiotics, when bacteria is killed the yeast will find a way to thrive. As a mother you need to be aware of children who are taking antibiotics so you know what too expect.  Another cause of child yeast infection is because their mouth has not yet had proper organism concentration and yeast will develop very easily and cause oral thrush.

Oral child yeast infection is called thrush and there are many children with this very problem.  Parents should always make sure they’re changing babies diapers regularly and make sure their bottom and groin area are clean and dry after bathing and changing diapers consistently.   Child yeast infection is not life threatening if brought under control quickly.  However, it can be very irritating and uncomfortable for you baby or toddler until the yeast infection is cleared up.

Yeast Infection And Pregnancy:

Yeast infections are a very common during pregnancy but it’s more likely in the second trimester of pregnancy especially.  You probably will notice a thin, white, or even odd smelling discharge.  It’s a common thing and quite normal.  If you think you might be experiencing yeast infection, continue reading so you’ll have some useful information to prepare youself so when you talk with your primary physician.  A yeast infection is usually more difficult to get under control during your pregnancy and can cause a lot of discomfort.  Seeking professional help is the best thing for you to do and the sooner the better.

What is a yeast infection?

It is when the normal levels of acid and yeast are in the vagina area and are out of balance, and it allows yeast to overgrow causing it to be very uncomfortable for you though it’s not a serious condition, called yeast infection.

Causes of yeast infections are:

·               Hormonal changes that come with pregnancy or before your period

·               Taking hormones or birth control pills

·               Taking antibiotics, or steroids

·               High blood sugar, as in diabetes

·               Vaginal intercourse

·               Douching

·               Blood or semen

Why are yeast infections so common with pregnancy?

Your body is going though so many different changes and it is very difficult for your body to keep up.

The symptoms of yeast infections are:

·               Discharge that is usually white, similar to cottage cheese and may smell like yeast/bread

·               Other discharge may be greenish or yellowish, also similar to cottage cheese and may smell like yeast/bread

·               Copious amounts of discharge

·               Redness, itching, or irritation of the lips of the vagina

·               Burning during urination or intercourse

You also could be experiencing the following:

If you have experienced symptoms of a yeast infection but your primary doctor hasn’t ruled out your diagnosis you could have any of the following:

·               Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) like Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, & Trichomoniasis

·               A vaginal infection called Bacterial Agenesis

If you would like to know for sure if you might have an yeast infection with your pregnancy  your primary doctor will use a simple swab and remove discharge and vaginal secretions and look through a microscope and test it.  And then he can usually diagnose a yeast infection.

Most doctors will recommend using vaginal cream if untreated a yeast infection can take any where from 1 or 2 weeks to clear up during your pregnancy.  The oral medication called Diflucan is a single dose medication, but it has not yet been proven safe while your going through pregnancy and lactation. If it is not treated during your pregnancy your yeast infection could pass through your babies’ mouth most likely.  It is called thrush” and can be treated with a medication called Nystatin.

You can usually prevent a yeast infection or a recurring yeast infection by doing the following:

·               Wear loose, cotton, breathable clothing, and cotton underwear.

·               After regular, thorough washing, use your blow dryer on a low, cool setting to help dry your genital area.

·               Always wipe from front to back after using the restroom.

·               Shower immediately after you swim. Change out of swimsuit, workout clothes or other damp clothes as soon as possible.

·               Don’t douche; and don’t use feminine hygiene sprays, sanitary pads, and tampons that contain deodorant, bubble bath, colored or perfumed toilet paper

·               Include yogurt with “lactobacillus acidophilus” in your diet

·               Limit sugar intake, as sugar promotes the growth of yeast infections
